Celtic Illumination Demonstration
As part of my project with Groam House Museum I've been giving demonstrations in the processes involved in making an Insular Illuminated Manuscript.
My next demonstration is at Poyntzfield Herb Nursery on 17th September. So from parchment to pigments and the final layout there will be skin stretching, lichen fermenting and some of the final pieces on display.
Here's some Cudbear lichen fermenting to produce orcien, a rare ancient source of purple used in the Book of Kells
